Onboarding & KYC Optimization
Duration
3 Months
The Challenge
Users struggled with a lengthy registration and KYC process that required creating separate accounts for Coin Rivet and Luxon Pay.
High drop-off rates, compliance requirements, and complex navigation further impacted the experience.
The map above displays user segments to the dashboard, trading menu, and tooltips, ensuring a guided setup. Disabled trading features include hints and shortcuts for verification.
Solution 1) Simplifying onboarding and verfiying process:
Onboarding was restructured with clear signposting, progress indicators, and guided steps to reduce friction.
New users can convert, send, and receive crypto but must connect to Luxon Pay to trade.
Partially verified users have capped transactions, with tooltips and dashboard reminders prompting full verification.
Solution 2) Updating the dashboard and navigation:
Key changes include:
Trading Feature Update: Positioned the trading feature in the navigation bar for constant availability, ensuring easy access and improved reach.
Portfolio & Waitlist Separation: Separated the portfolio and waitlist to maintain clarity and stability.
Addressed confusion by renaming "Crypto Balance" to "Watchlist," clarifying its purpose as a space for tracking assets rather than actual holdings. This enhances portfolio management and usability.
Solution 3) Optimising trading flows:
To redesign the trading flows, I addressed the challenge of managing time-sensitive market data and presenting key information—such as fiat balance, prices, and CTAs—without overwhelming users.
I created a sitemap to map out the trading flows, highlighting new screens and interactions.
Next, I developed initial user flows to guide wireframing and understand feature interactions, ensuring a seamless experience.
This approach helped define content requirements early for development estimation while designing clear, user-friendly interfaces that balance critical information with usability.
The Result
The redesigned app improved onboarding completion rates, reduced user confusion, and enhanced trading confidence.
Features like hierarchical transaction sorting, intuitive navigation, and a refined UI led to higher engagement and usability.
My Takeaways
I learned the value of quick competitor analysis when designing in unfamiliar areas. This enabled me to make informed design decisions despite lacking direct user research.
I also gained valuable experience mentoring junior designers, ensuring high-quality work, and encouraging design refinement. This process allowed me to create user-focused designs while fostering growth within the team.
Missed Opportunities:
Due to budget and time constraints, I could not conduct usability testing on the original design and proposed transaction flows.
This testing would have accelerated the iteration phase and helped define key features more effectively.
